Elle Sofe Henriksen is from Kautokeino. Her interest is in communicating a genuine Sami expression to a large audience through dance art and film. Her dance training is from the LabanTrinity in London and she also has a Masters in choreography from the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo.

In the preliminary work for Jorggáhallan she visited a number of elderly Sami people in their homes and received first-hand explanations of dance-like gestures and customs from days gone by – found in living rooms and homes, at the fireside and in weddings and spiritual meetings. In this production she highlights these movements and allows them to be transformed on stage. Old movement repertoires meet new in a journey through time and personal interpretations. We are invited to partake in sensory experiences vibrating through the space between a cup of coffee and dynamic dance.

The music has been written especially for the production by Wimme, a world renowned Finnish joiker and musician.

Jorggáhallan has toured both nationally and internationally and the reviews have been extremely good.
