Edvard Munch’s complex relationship to women surfaces when Ingun Bjørnsgaard returns to CODA and the Norwegian Opera House with a new production. Her works are characterised by an innovative combination of classical and modern dance, often mixed with humorous commentary on the artistic form and the times in which we are living. In her new production she collaborates with the composers Rolf Wallin and Tansy Davies. The piece addresses among other things the complex self-perception of the modern woman, with references the art of Munch. Shadows have a central position, and movements and compositions are refracted against archetypical psychological themes.

Ingun Bjørnsgaard has for a number of years been one of Norway’s most prominent choreographers. With her beautiful, playful and well-composed productions she has won the acclaim of both Norwegian and international audiences. In 1992 she founded Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt (IBP). Parallel to the development of her own choreographic idiom through IBP, she has worked as a guest choreographer for companies such as the Royal Swedish Ballet (Stockholm), the Norwegian National Ballet (Oslo), Komische Oper (Berlin), and Tanztheater Bremen and Northwest Tanzcompagnie Oldenburg. Bjørnsgaard has received a number of prizes and is the first Norwegian artist to have received the Norwegian dance critics’ award on two occasions, for respectively, Sleeping Beauty (1995) and Largo (2010).
