Working with physical change
Suzie’s story – an interactive seminar
PRODA / Rom for Dans
9. October - Kl 12.30
In this seminar, Suzie shares her experiences of how chronic illness has impacted her professional life. She has started implementing the theme of invisible disability into her artistic work, and by posing questions both to herself and to the audience she hopes to initiate contemplation on a theme that is rarely spoken about in dance.
In the context of contemporary choreographic practice, how do limitations such as these affect the human body?
How does my story have an impact – socially, culturally, politically?
Presentation – the artist
Suzie Davies is a dancer, choreographer, actor and writer from Leeds (UK), now based in Oslo (Norway).
Suzie started her professional career with the choreographer and director Janet Smith, of Uppercut Danseteater in Copenhagen. She then became an established member of Carte Blanche in Bergen in 1995. Over nine years she enjoyed the variety a repertory company could offer, and benefited from the challenge of having to adapt to the artistic profiles of three different directors – as well as her freelance work for the Ingun Bjørnsgaard Project. Suzie has worked as a freelance artist since 2004, within a variety of genres and with various choreographers. In 2017 she co-hosted the opening of the 2017 Bergen International Festival, together with Andrew Wale (Winter Guests). Suzie’s main focus remains on her work with her own company, DEED, where she and her partner Mattias are currently working on their fifth production together.
