The DEN – Dance Expo Norway is a platform for showcasing Norwegian dance art. By creating a space for performances, studio presentations, pitches, and networking, the DEN helps promote the work of dance artists based in Norway to international promoters, festivals, and venues. The event for the dance industry was initiated by CODA Oslo International Dance Festival, in collaboration with twelve other dance institutions, organizers, and producers in the field of dance.
The project has been running for five years and consists of two main components:
- A platform for showcasing Norwegian dance, where dance artists based in Norway can present their work to international organizers and producers.
- Seminars and knowledge development for producers and producing artists in the independent dance field.
History:
The DEN was initiated by CODA in 2018, under the direction of then-administrative manager Live Rosenvinge, and involved five festivals and five venues, as well as the Dans og Teatersentrum. The project was funded for a three-year period by the Norwegian Arts Council and the Oslo Municipality. In 2023, CODA continued the platform without new funding but with the collaboration of Dansens Hus, Bærum Kulturhus, and Black Box teater, as well as support from Performing Arts Hub Norway.
The partners represent a significant segment of the dance sector in Norway and aim to strengthen the industry and provide showcasing opportunities for dance artists from Norway. Efforts are underway to continue The DEN in the coming years as part of the CODA Oslo International Dance Festival.
