Coup Fatal

Coup Fatal is first and foremost a concert, created through cross-cultural exchanges and encounters. The production expresses a joy that defies death and violence. Alain Platel wants to share a message more powerful than the usual compassion and commemoration of grief. Although many people are living under inhumane and dangerous conditions − the scenography of Coup Fatal is built out of cartridge cases found in Congolese war zones – they survive with their joy and hunger for life intact. A rebellious hunger for life!

The expressions of 13 performers from Kinshasa unfold in Alain Platel’s choreography. The composer Fabrizio Cassol and guitar player Rodriguez Vangama are the musical directors. The musicians create a rich and natural mix of traditional Congolese pop music, rock and jazz with Baroque phrases. A new and exciting contemporary universe emerges from tenor Serge Kakudji’s arias, both theatrically and musically.

Alain Platel started les ballet C de la B in 1984. The company collaborates with a range of different artists and their productions have had great success worldwide. This is the third time that C de la B visits Oslo and Dansens Hus Norway; the first time was in 2011 with the production GARDENIA at the CODA festival.
