Birgit Berndt is appointed as the new festival director and artistic leader

CODA Oslo International Dance Festival has appointed Birgit Berndt to a fixed-term position as festival director and artistic leader. Berndt will assume the position on August 1, 2024, bringing with her significant experience from her role as head of dance at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå.

Birgit Berndt has an extensive background in artistic and organizational leadership, the appointment is received with great enthusiasm by CODA’s board chair, Torger Ødegaard.

“The board recognizes Berndt’s significant commitment and drive, and looks forward to her contributions to the festival. Berndt has solid knowledge of both Nordic and international artists and has established a reputable track record for co-productions and promoting dance to a broad audience.”

Berndt succeeds Stine Nilsen, who has served as festival director and artistic leader since 2017. She expresses great joy for the role and looks forward to tackling the tasks ahead.

“It is an honor to lead CODA, the largest contemporary dance festival in the Nordic region! Together with a fantastic team, I will work to continue a diverse festival that embraces both the audience and dance artists. I look forward to discovering and supporting more Norwegian dance artists, and I am already ready for the first meetings in Oslo this week at the Ice Hot platform. My goal is to strengthen CODA as an inspiring meeting place for dance both nationally and internationally.”
