Contemporary Class

Jamie Watton is the founder of Physical Recall Dance Company and has created numerous works for stage and screen as a choreographer. Here he leads a release-based class, informed by his study with Susan Klein (US) and Angels Margarit (ES). Focusing equally on standing and floor based activity; his approach explores an economic use of the body, pacing emphasis on breath and the use of natural physical weight.

Stine Nilsen for Jamie Watton Monday 16.10

The contemporary class Monday 16. October will be taught by Stine Nilsen, new Artistic Director of the CODA festival! The class will be accompanied with live music by Roger Matte.

Stine Nilsen has worked as freelance dancer and pedagogue since completing her studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Movement and Dance, London, 1993-97. Since 2007, Stine has been Artistic Co-director of Candoco Dance Company, and she is now Artistic Director and CEO for CODA Oslo International Dance Festival.

The class is release-based – with a lot of movement and dynamics, using the whole space. Special emphasis will be placed on articulations and use of breath. Often, a theme will be set at the start of class, giving direction to the work throughout the session.
