Inspired by the process of improving and expanding yourself, how do you give yourself an ‘upgrade’ through other people, styles, ages?

In this evening of three pieces by Amala Dianor, titled NEXT, the choreographer is dealing with the ideas of transgeneration, transmission and legacy.

The incredible solo “Man Rec”, performed and created by Amala Dianor, has toured worldwide since its creation in 2014. The title, which means “only me” in the Wolof language, reflects the origins of Dianor and forms the basis of this unique performance. The solo is a fusion of different dance forms, from urban and modern dance styles to traditional African dances.

In 2018, Dianor was inspired by a young dancer named Nangaline Gomis who wanted to learn a part of “Man Rec”. So Dianor created “Wo-Man” – an extension and reimagining of his original choreography through Nangaline’s body. Offering a different perspective and a unique vitality, this performance is a tribute to the diversity of cultures and influences that enrich their art.

For his newest work, Level Up, the choreographer has been working with eleven young urban dancers, virtuosic and specialized in the new dances being developed underground, live and online. What happens with the dancers whose work-mostly in the solo form – work together as a group? What are we willing to give up to exist inside a group?
