Do you want to be a part of a new dance piece with an international cast?

AUDITION for 2 disabled artists, 26th & 27th March 2022,  Oslo. 

Apply to audition for the new creation by Australian choreographer Marc Brew and English assisting choreographer Georgie Rose, a collaboration between CODA Oslo International Dance Festival and The Norwegian Opera and Ballet. The working period consists of workshops Spring 2022, 2 week creation period June/July 2022 and performances in October and December 2022.

We are looking for two professional dance artists, based in Norway,  who self-identify as physically disabled. The artists must have strong performing and creative skills for this project that requires collaborative input. A total of 8 dancers will be involved in the piece, disabled and non-disabled.

This is a paid contract according to the fees set by Norske Dansekunstnere.

Dancers applying require:

  • A strong natural performance ability
  • Demonstrable professional, or comparable, dance experience
  • High level technical ability
  • Good improvisation skills
  • Strong communications skills
  • An ability to remember or repeat material
  • A commitment to working collaboratively and being part of a team

The application must include: 

  • CV, photo, video that shows how you move. All documents need to be sent together.
  •  A motivation letter/video/presentation that says something about why you want to participate in this performance. The motivation letter must be a maximum of 1 min/1 A4 page and will be of great importance for the selection.
  • Confirmation that you are able to participate during all working periods

All applicants will receive an answer by 11th March, and chosen applicants will be  invited to a physical audition Saturday 26th March, with a second call Sunday 27th March. Exact timings will be announced when invited to the audition.

NB- please notify us if there are any questions or needs around access, for ex. need for sign language interpretation or visual interpretation. The audition will take place at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, which is fully accessible for wheelchair users.

This project is a collaboration between CODA  and The Norwegian Ballet & Opera, and is supported by Nordic Culture Point.

It will include one Swedish dancer and one Finnish dancer with support from Nordic Culture Point.

 


 

About the choreographer and his work:

Founded in 2008, Marc Brew Company fuses a fierce physicality with tender expression to explore an emotional narrative in dance. Grounded in both contemporary technique and classical ballet, the work draws on the unique physicality of each performer. The work, created in collaboration with disabled and non-disabled artists, is honest, unsentimental and recognisably human.

 

Marc Brew is an Australian/UK performer, director and choreographer. Now based in rural Scotland near Coalburn, Lanark, Marc’s work has been toured to critical acclaim across the world. In 2015 he created Exalt the first integrated work for Independance and Scottish Ballet and For Now, I am.. , chosen to be part of the first integrated Fringe program, amongst other work. His outdoor work (i)land was commissioned for the Glasgow 214 Cultural programme and Without Walls.  Marc has also produced work for a number of high profile companies such as AXIS Dance Theatre (USA), Candoco Dance Company, Scottish Dance Theatre, Touch Compass (NZ), Amy Seiwert’s Imagery (USA), The London Contemporary Dance School and YDance.
