“Candoco is the company for which choreographers reserve their wildest and often most inventive work”

Observer, September 2007

Candoco, the leading contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled dancers, perform an evening of new works by top choreographers Nigel Charnock and Hofesh Shechter. Shechter’s piece is a powerful exploration of the ‘perfect human’ – by using a fluid and intense movement style he takes us on a journey which might leave us breathless and sitting on the edge of the seat. In the work Still, DV8 founding member Nigel Charnock kidnaps us into a dark world of love, lust, addictions and obsessions. Using his unique blend of morbid irony, furious entertainment and black comedy, this is a wild and seriously funny piece about love and loss – a celebration of life and death written with bodies without limits.

Nigel Charnock is a founder member of DV8 Physical Theatre, formed his own company – Nigel Charnock + Company in 1995. A totally captivating performer, Nigel ruptures the boundaries of performance using different disciplines and media to redefine dance as a genre. Nigel has a string of internationally acclaimed shows to his name and was Artistic Director of Helsinki Dance Company 2002 – 05. Charnock is currently working on a new solo show Nothing which will premiere in 2009.

Hofesh Shechter graduated from the Jerusalem Academy for Dance and Music before joining Batsheva Dance Company. His choreographic debut, Fragments, won first place in the 3rd Serge Diaghilev choreography competition. From 2004 to 2006 he was Associate Artist with The Place and was commissioned to create Uprising, his ever-popular work. In 2007 Schecter created In your rooms for sell-out shows at Sadler’s Wells. Shechter is currently a Creative Associate at The Point, Eastleigh
