Creative Lab

A two-year project for young choreographers, including mentoring and networkbuilding

By providing young choreographers guidance and time to develop their own creative processes, CODA aim to support the development of choreography as a professional discipline in Norway. Four regional competence centres will nominate one young choreographer and pay for their participation, while an additional two will be selected via an open process.

Creative Lab 2018-2019 was a rewarding experience for the eight participating dance artists. The choreographers met yearly for a four-day session with mentor Fin Walker. CODA – in cooperation with Bærum Kulturhus – will repeat the programme in 2020-2021. Its main focus will be on choreographic exploration, and the workshop ends with a studio performance during CODAdancefest 2021.

Organised in collaboration with Bærum Kulturhus, with support from Dansearena Nord, DansiT, Bergen Dansesenter, Dans i Østfold and RAS – regional competence center for dance in Rogaland.

Mentor: Fin Walker

Via a mix of physical exercises, feedback and reflection, Walker will draw on her vast experience from contemporary dance, film, theatre and opera, and guide the participants in their exploration and sharing. The course consists of both individual and communal work sessions, and during the process of developing physical and verbal consciousness Walker employs Liz Lerman’s feedback technique. The programme will be tailored to suit each participant’s goals and level of competence.

Fin Walker created a safe environment and an arena for openness that has allowed for both personal and professional growth. I am left with gratitude that I got to be part of Creative Lab, and can highly recommend it to others.
